The underlying approach to Alexia's design
Nature knows best
I like to collaborate with nature, listening to the opinion of the landscape and being guided by what exists within each unique location.
A drive to increase biodiversity and enhance or support our arawai / waterways directs my naturally native-based plant palettes; a sensitive approach to earthworks sees natural drainage and earthworks plans; natural and ‘of the place’ materials are the tools of my trade.
Nature will have the last say
I like to think we have a contract with taiao / the natural world that allows us to borrow the canvas of the landscape for our own piece of artwork.
Your landscape design (or artwork) will lay over previous works which will likely show through. What we create today will become the foundation for future artworks.
I love feeling the responsibility of creating a landscape which is informed by history, relevant in the present and considerate of the future.
